THE HIGH: EVOLUTION 9 HI-BEAT Limited Edition SLGH007 White Gold
To celebrate the 140th anniversary of Kintaro Hattori’s founding of the brand, Grand Seiko released a limited edition watch, less a commemorative gesture and more a declaration of mission.
Like many Grand Seiko watches, the highlight of this timepiece is its dial. Unlike the embossed finish commonly seen on GS watches, this watch features a sculpted wood grain texture, giving it an almost vibrant, natural feel, like tree bark under moonlight (GS once again showcases its nature-inspired dial design). The overall design language is largely consistent with the Evolution 9 series, only more refined. Indeed, the hour markers, GS logo, date window, and clasp are all crafted from solid gold.
Recently, I’ve seen people complaining about the lack of a date display window in watch designs, which is quite strange. I’d never thought about this before, but looking at this watch now, I have to say that the date display window is crucial to the design of a timepiece.
Internally, it houses the 9SA5 movement, arguably one of the most important movements in the history of modern Grand Seiko—though that depends on who you ask. As its name suggests, it boasts a frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour, but beyond that, it’s a completely redesigned and ingeniously structured movement.
best replica watches
