My rugs are being destroyed by the repotting of indoor plants, what is your solu

My Monstera is technically too large to fit back into its own pot, yet each time I repot, I cause a huge mess with the soil and water. Does someone have a special drop cloth used in the indoor gardening? On abodelook I have seen some that are durable, which look like they are easy to shake out and wash off. Do they have a canvas one that is worth it, or do I continue to use the old newspapers, which never fail to tear?
