They arranged their study materials and established a study schedule, identifying when they had the high mental energy to tackle complex subjects. Regular revisions were also integrated into their study plans to consolidate the learning content and aid in long term memory retention.
The use of technology in developing strong study habits cannot be underestimated. Successful students are observed to leverage educational platforms and online resources to supplement their learning. In the digital age, students can access global libraries, online tutors, and interactive study platforms, which enrich their understanding and stretch their knowledge horizons.
Another aspect to consider is to offer prompts that talk about more general topics but are still of interest to middle schoolers. For example, “Should animals be kept in zoos?” or “Should junk food be banned in schools?” These issues touch on broader themes such as animal rights and health issues but are still within the students’ sphere of understanding and interest.
The observation was quite enlightening. Contrary to popular belief that online learning for reading could isolate children from the physical world, the balance between playful yard activities and online reading lessons witnessed promoted a perfect blend of active and cognitive development. The kids exemplified an advancement beyond just the ability to read words on a page. They demonstrated comprehension, the ability to decipher meaning, improved their vocabulary, and inferred lessons from their readings.
Online comprehension passages come with a convenience factor, making learning more fun and less monotonous. They are often embedded with handy features like read-aloud options, highlighting tools, and built-in dictionaries that help students understand and navigate through complex content more openly and at their own pace. It also helps foster independence and responsibility in learning, proving to be highly beneficial in the long run.
Lastly, encourage children to practise. Writing is a skill, and the more one writes, the better one gets at it. Provide them with numerous opportunities to write on various topics. Encourage them to express their opinions or thoughts boldly and fearlessly.
The formality of written responses improves a student’s ability to express their understanding in a clear, well-structured manner. Writing the answers also reinforces the information and contributes to better retention. The exercise of answering comprehension questions therefore also adds to enhancing writing skills.
Every day during connected learning sessions, the children were seen participating in reading lessons with gusto. They enjoyed various visual aspects incorporated in the teaching mechanism, such as illustrative storytelling, graphical representations and engaging animations.
