These tools provided immediate constructive feedback on grammar, sentence structure, and readability. Over time, Josh was able to significantly reduce grammar and coherence issues in his writing.
E-learning platforms further support middle school students by providing instant feedback, either manually from educators or automatically through AI technologies. This immediate corrective feedback plays a crucial role in a student’s learning journey as it enables them to realize their areas of improvement and work on them.
The introduction of live sessions and video tutorials in online learning has revolutionized writing instruction. These resources provide visual and audible learning, aiding students who may struggle with solely written information. For instance, YouTube channels like TED-Ed offer fun video lessons on various writing topics.
In addition, educators have leveraged a multi-sensory approach to teaching writing. This involves using visual, auditory, and tactile stimuli to reinforce learning. For example, some teachers used sand or shaving cream to allow students to physically form letters with their fingers. Such interactive activities help make the learning process more engaging and enjoyable, thus reducing stress and anxiety associated with writing.
However, it’s essential to highlight that each child has their unique learning style. The one-size-fits-all approach may not yield the same results for every child. Active acknowledgment and understanding of this disparity can lead to further enhancement of the learning process.
We also noticed the lack of spaced repetition – a technique that involves revising learned material at increasing intervals over time. By implementing this, students could aid long-term memorization, improving their ability to recall information effectively.

Teachers also dedicated time to showcase students’ improvements, demonstrating how their efforts contribute to their growth as writers.
Our goal was to modify these patterns, instilling effective study habits. The first step was engaging students in active learning. Techniques such as collaborative learning and problem-solving were employed, encouraging children to participate actively, enhancing their understanding. Next, we combated procrastination by promoting regular and scheduled study time. The kids were guided to design daily study schedules, breaking down tasks into manageable proportions, ensuring they make steady progress without feeling overwhelmed.
