I’m working on a small Android app with two other developers, and buying a drawer full of phones just to reproduce bugs on different setups sounds ridiculous. We mainly need a few cloud devices with different Android versions so we can install builds, poke around, and see what breaks. VSPhone came up while I was looking, and being able to change the device model sounds useful. Has anyone tried it for app testing, or is there something better suited to that?

Now that’s a use case where I’d care a lot less about fancy phone specs and a lot more about whether the device stays predictable after you’ve loaded a test build onto it. Nothing kills a debugging session faster than the environment changing under you halfway through. Genymotion is worth a look for this kind of work, since it’s built around virtual Android devices and gives you different Android versions and device profiles to test against.

I wouldn’t make the call from VSPhone’s own sales page, because every service looks great when it’s describing itself. Get a second opinion first and see whether the things reviewers complain about would actually matter for the way your team tests builds. You can read about the VSPhone cloud phone here: https://gologin.com/blog/vsphone-review/ . It gives you another view of the service before you spend time setting up several devices. Then you can decide whether VSPhone is worth a short trial or whether you’d rather keep looking.
