In this case study, we explore how innovative educational resources, targeting struggling readers, transformed a third-grade classroom in Ashton Elementary School in the midwestern region of the United States.
Six students, in particular, showed exceptional progress. They improved their reading levels from ‘Below Standard’ to ‘Approaching Standard’. Furthermore, they also showed significant progress in their spelling, vocabulary, and sentence structure abilities. These students, once hesitant about reading loud in class, were now voluntarily participating in reading sessions.
Further, the effectiveness of this kind of instruction depends on the teacher’s proficiency in incorporating games into the lesson plan. Teachers must carefully select games that align with the curriculum and consider each student’s learning curve to optimize successes.
